Our new 'Family Adventure' tradition.

Published: 21st February 2018

After watching an awesome video on Facebook about gifting monthly family adventures, I felt silly that I hadn't thought of this earlier! I love adventure and it feels only natural to share this with my two boys. Experiences are important to help expand our perceptions, adapt to situations and of course promote fun! So again this was an obvious family tradition I had to start.

2018 is the start of our 'Family Adventure' tradition, each month (minimum) as a family we are going on a fun adventure together, and I can’t wait! I'm really looking forward to sharing these moments with my boys and creating wonderful memories we can look back on and cherish forever.

For our first adventure, we decided to play it safe and head to our family favourite, Sea Life Aquarium and it was awesome!

The bus ride to the aquarium was a hit, so much so we considered making that the highlight and heading to the pub to have a long lunch whilst enjoying the water views. That dream only lasted 10 seconds because Lewy tripped over and landed in sticky seagull poop and was quite upset, to say the least! Reality set in and we realised a relaxing lunch with energetic 2.5-year-old twins is not going to happen. We kept on to the aquarium holding one screaming toddler and running after the other trying to keep him out of harm's way. We arrived and their little faces beamed, they were so excited that they actually squealed with delight!

At the aquarium, we each have our favourite areas we love to visit. The boys' absolute favourite area is the tunnels, they love being under the water and looking up at the sharks, turtles and stingrays. Their eager pointing and loud commentary was a sure give away, music to my ears! I personally love the penguins' exhibit, they're so animated and cute. I'd secretly love to have one as a pet, I could sit and watch them for hours and hours. My hubby's a surfer and he loves the sharks and is so intrigued by their presence. We all enjoy the Discovery Rock Pools, where you can touch and learn about the sea creatures, it’s 'pretty cool' as the boys would say. There are so many different areas to immerse yourself in, we always have a great time.

Once we'd been through every section at least 3 times, we headed outside for a late picnic lunch. I thought a picnic lunch would top off the day perfectly but really it turned out to be a bit of a battle, fending off the greedy seagulls! It didn't help that the boys kept feeding them our lunch, we were clearly losing this battle, so we packed up and headed to the bus stop for the last leg of our adventure.

After lots of chatter and hearing the same stories over again about their favourite moments of the day, the boys fell asleep on the bus, exhausted. I was the happiest mummy in the whole world and I looked over at my husband and he was also beaming from ear to ear. I’m not sure who's more excited for our next adventure, us or the kids! Bring on no.2.
